itty bitty love

Itty bitty sewing for an itty bitty baby. I've had this pattern "stashed" {bookmarked} for awhile now because it's just so cute. It's the Itty Bitty Baby Dress by Made by Rae - and let me tell you... it's really itty bitty! It's also free so I bookmarked it ages ago.

When I found out our friends were expecting I was {not so} secretly hoping they'd be having a girl. I really wanted to give this pattern a go. I kept asking Lukas, "Do they know yet?", till he had to tell me to stop asking. But it turns out they are expecting a little girl in May. Let the tiny dress sewing begin!

This dress, with the pattern and step-by-step instructions was simple to put together. What really got me the entire time I was sewing was just how tiny this dress really is. I kept wondering, 'is this ever going to fit?' When I gave it to the new parents I was sure to let them know it's new born size.

For my first try at this dress I stuck closely to the pattern/directions. The one change I made was when it came to finishing the hem. I had trouble sewing on the called for binding. It wasn't as neat as I wanted it to be. So, I chucked the binding and opted for a rolled hem. I think it worked and made the dress very simple and casual.

I also raised the neck line in the back as Rae offers as a modification. This totally helps differentiate front from back. But even if I hadn't done this the back would be pretty obvious. I added a cute little tag from the left-over selvage of some Amy Butler {used here}. Some itty bitty LOVE.
