We did the summer weekend right this past weekend.  In its parts, it was nothing extravagant but as a whole summer was pretty much nailed.  It began, as all good weekends do, on Friday evening.  We enjoyed a lazy night - leftovers {with raisin challa} were eaten.  Who needs to cook when the fridge is full of yummy food like cauliflower mac & cheese {for me - linked recipe just my starting point} and chicken potpie {for Lukas}.  And since it was the beginning of the weekend there was no need to hurry off to bed at an early hour.  So we chatted and sang songs - our current favorite is "Wish it was true" by White Buffalo.

We filled the next day of our awesome summer weekend hanging out with friends.  A bbq'd lunch of flank steak, fruit with the best potato chips ever filled us all up.  Then the heat inside drove us down to the neighborhood park.  Where we parked ourselves on a blanket in the shade.  Lukas and Zach attempted to remember how to throw a frisbee while Lively toddled around - a rock and a leaf clutched tight in her hands.  It was nice in the shade with a slight breeze to keep us from over heating.  But soon, we were dreaming of milkshakes and we packed up.  A quick stop at the store for ice cream on the way home - it's fun living in a small town.

Summer weekend days are awesome and one tends to loose track of time.  And that's just what happened.  Still full from our bbq lunch and milkshakes, dinner wasn't even on our minds.  Instead, clouds rolled in and Lukas began watching them - ever the landscape photographer.  We debated where to head and ended up heading out a little bit late for Potrero Hill.  But we still managed to catch the awesome sunset.  It was a rare summer treat since colorful sunsets don't usually happen in the Bay Area during the summer.

The last day of the summery weekend was occupied with necessary errands.  A trip to Home Depot, Costco, and Trader Joe's.  After that I took some time to mash some lemons and strawberries for strawberry lemonade.  It chilled while I did laundry and I poured us two big glasses when I got home and Lukas folded the laundry.  An ordinary, yet extraordinary day.

  1. The cat napping up a storm in the laundry basket is awesome! I felt a soul-connection.

  2. He was perfectly content in there for quite some time. He didn't even move an inch when the folded laundry was placed back in the basket next to him.
