11 days and counting

{photo shamelessly stolen from my fiancé's flickr stream... p.s. "borrowing" flickr photos shouldn't be done without asking the photographer first... ok, off my high horse!}

So, instead of stress out on wedding details and "the list" when the clouds were looking promising last night we headed out to catch the sunset. The plan was to head south on highway 1 and see where we ended up while trying to not out run the pretty clouds. When it did look like we were driving away from them we turn around and stopped at this beach in Half Moon Bay. We parked across from some multimillion dollar homes and walked out to the beach on a path through a golf course. Fancy! The clouds were stunning, but the sunset didn't look like it was going to be much - too many clouds to block out the sun. We explored the south end of the beach and then it got to be about 8pm. That's when the parking lot "closed". Since the sky was still looking nice Lukas stayed down at the beach and I went to protect the car from tickets or towing. As I walked across the beach I looked out over the water and just had this strong feeling the sky was going to explode. And boy did it ever! From the car, over the golf course I watch the sun sink down and amazing colors spread across the clouds.

When the colors faded we went home and had a LATE dinner of beer battered fish {recipe in the most recent issue of Everyday Food, but I can't seem to find it on line} and garlic fries. Wow, it was good! It got the stamp of approval - "add it to the list" from Lukas. The night was a double win - sunset and yummy dinner. If only the Sharks had won to make it a triple win.

done

Yesterday was spent doing this. And now... it's done. Just wanted to give you a little hint of what I'll be wearing exactly two weeks from this moment.

Ah! Really, just two weeks? How does time move so quickly?

I can't wait for these two weeks to pass and hope everything gets done that needs to be done.

On that note... must get back to the list!

tethered threads::may

I got to do some fun sewing the other day. Had to get these May blocks done for Jessica and they were so fun to do. She asked for blocks inspired by traditional quilt blocks with a modern twist - like Modify Tradition. It was great to have the resources of Modify Tradition to turn to and I easily picked out a couple blocks that I really liked. I did the Quatrefoil that you see to the left here and the Antique Tile {below}. While I really like how these came out I wish I'd taken a bit more care in planning out which fabrics to place where. I would have liked to have the green be more prominent and break up the lighter blues.

And one quick note on the Modify Tradition tutorials... these ones were great. I loved the way they had you put these blocks together. So simple and straight forward, but with time saving methods too.

Happy sewing!

Now off to wash last night's dishes {darn} and get ready for work. We've got a game to go to tonight - yippee!

do your bugs like beer?

Now I've got "Do your ears hang low" stuck in my head. Sorry.

My little garden is in and growing. Well, it's all growing except for my poor green beans. First, they seemed to take so much longer than everything else to come up. And then this... see those nasty holes?! Some of the leaves are completely gone. I was so bummed to see this.

But, I wasn't going to let the pests win. I thought maybe it was snails so I pulled out my gardening book and read up about them. A couple nights later, armed with a flashlight I went snail hunting. But no snails... instead I found icky pincher bugs. Some of the little bean plants were completely covered in them. A quick trip inside to the book gave me a suggestion to try to get rid of the bugs - beer.

Lukas balked at my feeding the bugs our Pacifico, but that's what we had. I put a little beer in an old tin can and set it in a hole in the ground. With the dirt level to the lip of the can the earwigs could easily find their way to the beer instead of my tender plants.

And it worked! The little plants still have much to over come to actually start growing. They may be lost and I might need to replant, but I've got a leg up on the bugs now.

Here you can see lettuce, garlic, the tin with the beer and off the the side some of the peas.

a little bit of home::dining room edition

Things here seem to be busy, busy, busy and maybe that has something to do with the wedding. But, in that area things are moving along nicely - wedding dress almost done {yes! thanks, Em!!}, invites in the mail, and favors are getting done too. Seeing though that time is not of plenty, this little blog has been sorely neglected.

And again... just quickly popping in. Had to share this super duper cute table we scored today at the Alameda Antique Fair - think biggest, coolest flea market you've ever seen. The guy selling this table said he makes them out of found old wood - thought that was pretty cool. Totally made me think of something I'd see on this blog - I think it had a little something to do with the color and style too. {p.s. she sews the cutest things and sells them too!} Now this cute table sits against the wall in the dinning room. It was a perfect fit.

And yes, I do know I've promised pictures of the new place, but we're still working on getting it presentable looking. Now the dining room is done and soon the living room will be too - just have to find something for the TV to go on. Someday I'll have a little tour up on the blog - but for now you can get it in little installments. Next up {but who knows when that'll be} the garden.

I'll be back some day... have a wonderful week.
