Just for fun...

I found this link on this blog I was checking out. I really enjoyed the beautiful art work and wish I had some time to be more crafty. Instead, I had just a few minutes during the day to make this little library index card on line. (I should have been doing my reading homework for epi!) Anyways, it was time for another post.
Last weekend I attempted to make two skirts and ended up with one. I've got to sew a button on it and then it'll be done. And then... I'll post some good pictures of it. The ones I've got right now are definitely not post worthy. So... keep a lookout for my new skirt.

A Sunset Hike (and a new outfit)

Lukas has been wanting to hike Bishop Peak again to get some night pictures of San Luis Obispo. The last time we did this his camera was on the wrong setting and all the pictures were small. So, off we went to hike. I had great visions of sitting on the top, snuggling up and watching the sun slowly sink into the ocean beyond Moro Bay. But that was not to be. The air was brisk and breezy as we were walking -- which was very nice during the uphill parts. The wind picked up as we got higher up. When we finally reached the near top (the bench just below the very tip-top) thick grey fog was rolling in through Los Osos Valley and over the hills into SLO. Well, we made it this far so we climbed up to the very top sat for a minute (actually, probably less) and then climbed back down to the bench. Out came the sweatshirts and a little snack. The sun wasn't shining but there was still time before it got dark enough to get some good night shots so we sat and watched the fog. Lukas tried out his new camel back backpack on this hike. It's pretty fancy and holds about 3L of water! Very exciting and it makes drinking water fun. After a quick double self portrait we started our walk back down. We found the perfect rock to sit on for a great view of the city and waited for the lights to come on. It was pretty cold, but the lights finally came on and Lukas got some neat pictures. In this one, the bright lights on the left are from the Cal Poly baseball field. In the cold night air we could hear everyone cheering when Poly got a run. A couple good pictures later it was just too cold to sit any longer and we headed all the way down. A quick stop off at home to blow our noses and then we grabbed some yummy Firestone's.

The next day was a lazy homework day. I made Lukas take my picture in my new outfit that I got with the gift certificate I'd gotten for my bday. I really like it! (thanks mom and dad!!)

P.S.

Lukas is my dyslexia catcher. I like to mix up my letters all the time and often I do it in such a way that they make other words. My fingers just somehow know the feel of typing a real word even if it isn't quite the one I was thinking in my head and thus... spell check doesn't catch it. Good thing I've got my own dyslexia catcher.

Queen of Clean

Hehe... I guess I might be stretching the truth a bit with that title for this post, but it sounds good so that's what ya get. So my roommate has been out of town for a couple days and I have become very lax about doing my dishes. So lax in fact, that I haven't done dishes since she's left. I finally broke down tonight when I realized that my two choices of activities were (1) epi homework or (2) cleaning up the kitchen. After getting my midterm back for epi and while my score was above the mean (even in the top quartile) it was still a 46% and I was not in the mood for thinking about epi. Cleaning up won. And then I thought, what could make cleaning up more fun? Well, it's always better to show of your handiwork, whatever it may be, and being that my roommate isn't here to share in the enjoy of my cleaning I thought I'd take a few pictures to show off my "house-wife" skills.
First there's the before pictures. I messed up and didn't get a really good before picture. Really, the sink was over flowing with dishes at the beginning. I had to move some over the the counter that already had quite a few dishes on it too. Here's what's left in the sink that I felt I could clean around and still be able to fit the dishes under the water faucet. This picture just doesn't do it all justice! The task really was very very daunting and just made me want to keep putting it off for ever. But... believe it or not, in no time at all I was making great progress on making my kitchen sparkle again. First, I wiped down the dish drainer - 'cause it's always better to start at the bottom and work your way up and it needed a good wipe down. Then, I started in on the dishes. Wow, I didn't realized it until they started stacking up in the dish drainer but I had only used bowls the last couple days. All my meals it seems had been in a bowl -- either normal or Tupperware.
Here's my art-sty shot of the first bowls into the dish drainer. My roommate is very into these two colors - she had our bathroom walls painted pink to go with the old blue tile that was already there. Well, in no time at all the kitchen was visible again - not hidden any more by piles of dishes. Quite proud of myself, I dried off my hands, hung up my apron, took one last picture, and began to think of what I was going to cook for dinner (to begin the process of dirtying up the kitchen all over again).

I hope you've enjoyed my little post. Not the most exciting of all posts, but knowing I was going to post about this before I started helped to get the work I needed to get done done. That's all for now. Time to do some homework.

A new project and a visit from Lukas

So... I've had enough of the purple for the time being and am going back to boring black. I'm excited to finaly get to post about my latest sewing project because (1) I was very happy with the way it turned out and (2) my mom got it in the mail today so now posting about it wont be ruining any suprise.
Here it is... my very first purse/bag/tote. I didn't have a clue about the steps one would take to make one of these and just kinda puzzled it all out in my head as I went. Silly me! I have a little purse of a similar style that I could have looked at to get a better idea of how this all goes together, but didn't think of that until I was all done. Well, it still turned out pretty good and now I've just got some technical questions I'll have to ask my cousin about. One mistake... I sewed the second strap on backwards. Opps! I was so bumbed about that but felt that taking it all apart to fix that would just make things an even bigger mess. So, I left it. As my mom says, "It gives it character!" Here you can see the inside lining a little bit better.-->

To make this bag I used left over flannel fabric for the lining -- left over from a pair of PJ pants I made my little sister. And left over black corduroy from making a cover for Lukas's computer chair. It's fun to make a project from stuff I just have laying around and not have to go buy something new.

And now for a couple pics from last weekend when Lukas came down and visited me. I swam in a swim meet for the masters swim team. While the swim part was fun, it wasn't so much fun waiting for my turn to swim. Things seem to move so much slower when I'm just in a relay and not swimming individual events too. After the meet we walked around campus to give Lukas some practice taking pictures of buildings. He's going to be doing a lot of that... when we go to Europe this summer!!! (very excited about this!) There was also a Pow Wow happening on campus so we had to check that out too. That was as adventuresome as we got. It was mainly nice just to spend some time together and not be stressed out by trying to get anywhere in L.A.
